Flexible, Tracker or Fixed?
Tariff Price Comparison
In 2024 I had been using the tracker tariff, this follows the real-time changes in the energy market instead of sticking to the usually higher government-regulated price. This tracker rate was consistently lower than the flexible tariff and in 2024 I saved around 20% - 30% on my energy bills compared to the flexable rate. However the average tracker price has been increasing and for the first time in January 2025 it was no longer the best option. In March the Tracker was again the cheapest hinting that the wholesale cost may be coming down again in 2025. You may want to consider a Fixed rate which I have done. The price I fixed at was 21.56p /kwh for electric and 5.91p /Kwh for gas. There is no exit fee for home customers if leaving early so if the tracker price comes down later on before your fixed rate time is up you can always switch. Please be aware that if switching from one or the other you may not be able to return to it for a period of time.
Please compare the other tariffs available before choosing. If you have solar panels or an electric car there may be other tariffs available such as Octopus Go or Outgoing that allow you to charge your car and batteries for less at certain times of the day. This is not financial advice.
